Okay I think we’re definitely talking about the same scene, and yeah something does happen in the books but from what I’ve seen on tumblr the show has done a poor job at executing…to those who haven’t read the books it really does come off as wrong

The heart of the matter is this. These are characters. In a book, you trust the narrator. But with a television series, there are many minds at play. You have actors who, despite what writers and directors tell them, believe things to be true about their characters. If you don’t believe this happens, well, it happens. And then, as I stated, you have writers with their intention and directors who are meant to take what a writer wrote and execute it properly, but are more than likely to have some bias of their own. So with all of that going on, it does create an incredibly skewed point of view for the audience. And I don’t know if this was intentional? Already, we have characters who are incestuous, so is their credibility shot for me?

I’m just normally so black and white on this issue, and “no” should mean no, but it doesn’t here and now I’m questioning my entire existence.

I haven’t read that far into the series and I don’t think that scene is actually written into the books from what I understand if it’s the scene I think you’re thinking about.

If we are in fact discussing the same scene, based on the game of thrones tag, it is in the books, it just happens very differently. And everyone is saying it happens different. Meaning it is very clear to all readers of the scene, what is going on. My issue is that, as a viewer, it was not made clear to me. And this is problematic on SO MANY LEVELS.

"If a girl is lucky enough to receive any sex education, she will be taught the biological basics. She’ll learn that men have penises and testicles and produce sperm and women have vaginas and uterii and produce ova. She’ll learn that when a man and a woman have sex, the man inserts his penis into the woman’s vagina until he ejaculates. She’ll learn that the semen in the ejaculate will render her vulnerable to pregnancy so she will have to protect herself by using a hormonal or a barrier contraceptive. Hormonal contraception is preferable because barrier methods such as condoms, while safer for women, apparently reduce sensation for men which is obviously a no-no. It’s much better that a woman take a pill every day for her entire reproductive lifespan, or get a painful injection every 12 weeks, or have a copper rod inserted into her uterus, or a silicone rod implanted into her arm. She probably won’t learn that 3 out of 4 women never orgasm from vaginal intercourse. She almost definitely won’t learn how women do achieve orgasm. She’ll learn her place as a receptacle."

I have some…thoughts.

About that show…Game of Thrones.

About a particular…scene.

You know the one I’m talking about.

But I’m going to keep my mouth shut because any time I have opinions, I’m told they’re wrong…which I did not know was possible.

So I will just say that there is a war raging in my mind and I’m trying to figure this all out and I think this is karma because for once I haven’t read a book and it seems in this case it would be really helpful.

That is all.

Goals for tomorrow (my well deserved day-off before what will surely be an unbearably stressful week):

  • Work on my linkedin profile (because that’s important, apparently)
  • Update my resume (also important)
  • sleep in (we’ll see…knowing my luck, I’ll be up at fucking 5am)
  • private barre yoga class because I’m a queen
  • possibly write a bit
  • if all else fails: remind yourself that your one true talent is napping

Pink: 4 facts about my parents

  1. They don’t like each other very much and I struggle to imagine them ever actually loving one another.
  2. My dad grew up poor and my mom grew up extremely wealthy
  3. They raised me to be extremely socially aware. To use my privilege to help others.
  4. I don’t really have a great relationship with either of them.

Black: 1 fact about the person I like

  1. I haven’t liked anyone in years. My therapist says it’s because I don’t want to like anyone but I can confidently say there is no one in this town who is worth my time.

Serious note. I’ve been listening to my playlist from last summer, and it’s caused me to think the following:

  • I need my beach house and lazy days spent in the sun reading and writing. Stat.
  • The Summer Set’s Legendary album is severely underrated.
  • It’s so odd how jaded my views have become. I went from being a cynical little shit to an incredibly cynical little shit.

That is all.

"Strong is the New Pretty" is a new photo series by Kate Parker which shows her two daughters and their friends "just as they are: loud, athletic, fearless, messy, joyous, frustrated. I wanted to celebrate them, just as they are, and show them that is enough.  Being pretty or perfect is not important. Being who they are is."
